Connor McDavid didn’t get the gold medal that he and his Canadian teammates wanted.
But he leaves Milan as a silver medalist and the Most Valuable Player of the 2026 Winter Olympics men’s hockey tournament. The USA’s Connor Hellebuyck (best goalkeeper) and Quinn Hughes (best defender) also received individual awards.
McDavid finished with 13 points (two goals, 11 assists), setting a record for an NHL player at the Olympics. He passed the 11 points shared by Finland’s Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu in 2006.
The three-time Hart Trophy winner as NHL MVP was expected to have a big tournament after scoring the overtime goal in the 4 Nations Face-Off final. But the USA made quick work in the Olympic gold medal game overtime as Jack Hughes scored the golden goal at 1:41 for a 2-1 victory.
McDavid had been named playoff MVP in the NHL in 2024 while falling short to the Florida Panthers in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.
