Social media reacts as No. 8 Florida State is stunned by Virginia

Florida State football entered its Week 5 game with Virginia on Friday, Sept. 26 riding high. But in Charlottesville, Virginia fans are partying like it’s 1995.

Nearly 30 years after Virginia defeated Bobby Bowden’s Seminoles and handed him his first loss in the ACC, the Cavaliers poured cold water on a scorching Florida State team that was bouncing back from a program-halting 2024 season.

Florida State, which entered Friday ranked No. 8 in the country in the US LBM Coaches Poll, suffered a 46-38 loss at Virginia, leading to a field storming that barely saw Thomas Castellanos’ desperation heave at the end of the game hit the ground, which enveloped the intended Florida State receiver Squirrel White.

Cavalier fans weren’t the only ones swarming ones swarming the ‘Noles. College football fans tricked in throughout the night on X, formerly known as Twitter, to observe one of the biggest upsets of this young season.

Virginia vs Florida State: Social media reactions after shocking upset

Here’s a look at some of the reactions to Virginia’s stunning win over Florida State (and the ensuing field storming).

Florida State now has to pick itself up and dust itself off as it prepares for Miami on Oct. 4. Thing won’t be getting any easier for the Seminoles, but they will play host to No. 6 as they enter must-win mode for much, if not the remainder of, the season.
