The massive expansion for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup required a new trophy, and the winner of this summer’s big tournament will get a cup drawing inspiration from the cosmos.
The Club World Cup, which kicks off Saturday and will play out at stadiums throughout the United States, used to be an awkward event taking place in December and featuring just seven teams. The new edition will see 32 clubs vying for the new trophy, which per FIFA is inspired by the golden records placed on the Voyager I and Voyager II probes (two of the only known objects created by humans to depart the Solar System).
The trophy, created in conjunction with Tiffany & Co., features moveable parts, which per FIFA allows it to ‘transform from a shield into a multifaceted and orbital structure.’ The first team to ever lift the new trophy will have to battle their way through the group stage and knockout rounds, with the tournament final set for July 13 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Club World Cup details: Design notes for new FIFA trophy
FIFA has lofty ambitions for the revamped Club World Cup, with this expanded format only finally getting underway in 2025 after years of planning and discussions.
FIFA had suitably aspirational language around what inspired the design of the Club World Cup trophy. The global governing body for soccer cited ‘pioneering journeys, the periodic table, astronomy and space travel’s historic Voyager Golden Records’ as influencing the trophy, which has the name of all 211 FIFA member nations inscribed on it.
The trophy — which is plated in 24-carat gold — also includes writing in 13 languages as well as in Braille, and includes space to etch the names of the first 24 winners into it for posterity. Symbols representing the sport are featured, as are ‘celestial symbols representing the approximate positions of planets at the time of FIFA’s foundation on Saturday, May 21 1904 in Paris, France, and [for] the tournament’s opening match on June 14 2025 in Miami, USA.’
‘The team who lift this trophy will hold the world of club football in their hands,’ said FIFA president Gianni Infantino in a press release. ‘To the players who win it, history belongs to you! Let’s take it to the world and celebrate it as we look forward to the start of a new era for football.’
Anthony Ledru, the president and CEO of designers Tiffany & Co., added that ‘the FIFA Club World Cup Trophy is the next chapter in our long history of creating the world’s most revered symbols of athletic achievement.’
