Dodgers spring training: Yamamoto to make debut Wednesday

Spring is a magical time when hope seems to be as resplendent as flower blooms and pitching matchups seem far more interesting than they should be. The Dodgers newest frontline starter, Yoshinobu Yamamoto is going to get his first start for Los Angeles on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers, so freak out accordingly.

The Dodgers had what you would call a pretty darn good offseason, signing players as if they were the cast of Avengers coming together. Shohei Ohtani, who will be taking his first hacks in a game wearing Dodgers blue on Tuesday, signed with L.A. for $700 million. The franchise also added slugger Teoscar Hernandez on a one-year, $23.5 million deal. Tyler Glasnow and James Paxton also join the squad in 2024 along with returning players like Clayton Kershaw and Jason Heyward.

The other major headline was acquiring the services of the highly coveted Yamamoto on a 12-year-deal worth $325 million. Slugger Freddie Freeman gave an assessment of his teammate’s stuff: ‘It’s things you’re not used to facing,’ he said, via Fox Sports. ‘Then for him to put the ball where he wants and hit any quadrant, there’s just a lot of moving parts that a lot of guys are going to have trouble early on getting used to.’

When will Yamamoto pitch for the Dodgers?

The 25-year-old right-hander will take the bump on Wednesday, according to reports. The good news comes in threes as Gavin Lux will get a start Monday for the first time since going down with an injury last year and Ohtani is getting a DH start on Tuesday.
